Colombia será sede entre el 12 y 18 de septiembre del 2013, de la Tercera Cumbre Mundial de Alcaldes y Mandatarios Africanos y  Afrodescendientes, la cual se llevará a cabo en la ciudad de Cali del 12 al 16 de septiembre, y en Cartagena 17 y 18 del mismo mes. .
El encuentro que está gerenciado por la Asociación Nacional de Alcaldes y Gobernadores de Municipios y Departamentos con Población Afrodescendiente, Amunafro y apoyado por la Asociación de Alcaldes Negros de los Estados Unidos, NCBM,  tiene como propósito promover el hermanamiento entre ciudades y profundizar en el diálogo político y la cooperación internacional para el desarrollo de la diáspora africana.
Un espacio del cual surgirá una Red Mundial de Mandatarios que impulsará el desarrollo de nuestros pueblos. Una Cumbre que generará la integración económica, cultural, social, académica y espiritual.
Este encuentro permitirá sentirnos más hermanos, más fuertes, para caminar juntos y construir el futuro que todos deseamos.

Public library materials and the methods of reader's advisory and adult education use to develop maturity in reading, viewing and listening and new technologies. Planning, implementation, and evaluation of services for adults. ILS 531 - Indexing and Abstracting 
This course explores theoretical and practical aspects of the organization of information in documentation systems, and covers traditional and computerized approaches to indexing, abstracting and thesaurus construction and maintenance. ILS 532 - User-Centered Database Design and Development 
An introduction to the theories and principles of database design. Theories and principles will be used to design database systems based on practical library information problems. ILS 535 - Resource Sharing and Library Networks 

An examination of the impact of cooperation, consortia, and networks on the library/information field: developments, network characteristics, problems, and issues. ILS 537 - Information-Seeking Behavior 

How people acquire, store and use information they receive from their environment. Topics include behavioral, cognitive, and affective aspects of information-seeking. ILS 538 - Computer-Mediated Communications 

A reading-intensive course on computer-mediated communication (CMC) and its applications in the dissemination of information and delivery of information services. In the context of existing theoretical frameworks and CMC research findings, the course reviews the advantages and disadvantages of CMC technologies as well as the long-term implications of CMC for the information professions. Prerequisites/co-requisites: ILS 501, ILS 503, and ILS 504. 3 credits.

ILS 539 - Multimedia Interface Design 
An orientation course intended to give students both a theoretical understanding of, and practical experience with, designing multimedia products and the user interface in information systems.It introduces basic knowledge of human-computer (HCI) and various computerized, new media and Internet based multimedia system designs. ILS 604 - Advanced Reference Materials and Services 
Specialized reference services and collaborative reference are examined. Evaluation of E-Reference sources, services and systems. Demonstrated competence in reference interview techniques, online searching, development of bibliographic instruction for print and electronic resources. Lab in on-line retrieval and reference service. Prerequisite: ILS 501 and ILS 504. Scheduled fall semesters. 3 credits.

ILS 606 - Advanced Cataloging and Classification 
Cataloging of special library materials; new concepts of descriptive and subject cataloging; role of cataloging in public and technical services, metadata and cataloging of digital collection. Issues of Name and subject authority control. Prerequisite: ILS 506. Scheduled spring semesters. 3 credits.

ILS 608 - Cataloging and Development of a Digital Union Catalog for Ancient Chinese 
Special features and catalog sources of ancient and rare Chinese books; descriptive cataloging for Chinese rare books; and metadata for creating a digital union catalog. An online course for experienced librarians working for East Asian collections worldwide. Prerequisite: basic cataloging experience and reading competence of Chinese language. ILS 615 - Humanities - Literature and Sources 
An introduction to reference sources in the humanities: religion, philosophy, literature and performing and visual arts. Evaluation and selection of reference sources, institutions, societies, periodicals, major collections and their relative importance to each discipline will be considered. Prerequisite: ILS 504. ILS 616 - Social Sciences - Literature and Sources

ILS 617 - Science-Technology - Literature and Sources 
The various type of organization and publication of Sci-Tech information sources and literature are examined. The functions of science and technology library and information centers in providing conventional library resources as well as online database services for different user needs are explored. ILS 618 - Business Information - Literature and Sources

Management and operation of electronic information resources and services in library and information centers. ILS 650 - Preservation of Library Materials

An in depth study of the concepts and practices of information architecture (IA). Students will read the existing literature related to IA and build complex web sites to address issues specific to information and library science based on current best practices. Investigation of political and social issues affecting school libraries on local, state, and national levels. Historias de Vida

Las historias de vida narran la iniciativa de seis jóvenes que, a partir de su experiencia en el Archivo Fotográfico de Aguablanca, decidieron compartir su mirada del Distrito a través de un libro titulado "En Oriente nace el Sol" que recoge treinta años de historia de una comunidad que ha trabajado incansablemente en la construcción de su futuro.

Los autores nos muestran una visión optimista, narrada desde ellos mismos, basada en su propia búsqueda y esfuerzo. Vale la pena destacar que este rumbo lo encontraron a través de su formación en Tecnología y Digitalización que hace parte de la capacitación del Archivo Fotográfico. 

Historia de Vida Juan Esteban Aguirre Mora

Nacido el 11 de octubre de 1991 en la
Sucursal del Cielo. Este carismático caleño
a su corta edad adelanta estudios
en diseño gráfico a nivel técnico; además participó
y aprobó el taller "Archivo fotográfico
de Aguablanca", proyecto promovido por la
Fundación Carvajal dentro de la Central Didáctica
El Poblado 1; seguido a esto, trabajó
en la recolección del material fotográfico del
Distrito de Aguablanca, lo que le dejó como
experiencia un amplio conocimiento en temas
de digitalización de archivos, elaboración de
proyectos, manejo en base de datos y rescate
del patrimonio histórico, para luego ponerlos
a prueba en la digitalización de 1.230 documentos
pertenecientes a los proyectos Cuéntame
un Cuento, Palabrario y Saberes, del área
de Educación de la Fundación Carvajal. Ahora
deja parte de sus habilidades, conocimientos y
destrezas en este hermoso libro, contado a partir
de imágenes de este humilde pero pujante
territorio caleño.

Historia de Vida Edward Alexánder Yepez

Nací el 7 de abril de 1987, en Jamundí,
Valle del Cauca, un hermoso lugar
donde lo maravilloso de la naturaleza
nos brinda un mágico momento. A la edad de
ocho años me traslado a la hermosa ciudad de
Cali, a vivir con mi abuelo Gonzalo en un bello
hogar, donde se cumplen los sueños más
resplandecientes de mi inocencia. Luego mis
padres me inscriben en una fundación de música.
Allí construí mis primeros pilares en este
mágico arte. Al terminar la secundaria empecé
el triunfo de mi desarrollo profesional como
músico. Luego me encuentro con la Fundación
Carvajal, que brinda oportunidades a la comunidad.
Como usuario de la Fundación Carvajal, me
inscribo en un proyecto de fotografía: esa fue
la oportunidad más grande que me ha podido
pasar, porque se trataba de mostrar una historia
de las raíces de mi comuna.
Luego del proceso de las fotos, hago un
trabajo con la Fundación Carvajal en digitalización
y archivística de documentos; durante
este espacio aprendí a tener un buen desempeño
laboral y personal. Mi gran reto es seguir
trabajando por la comunidad y demostrar a los
demás que se puede salir adelante si uno se lo
propone. .

Historia de Vida Nilson Carmona

Nilson Carmona es un joven nacido en
Cali, en la zona oriente, en la década
de los 80. Curioso, con metas trazadas,
inspirado por la filosofía y la antropología
para realizar o unirse a causas humanitarias.
Su sueño, además, es descubrir las cosas
que yacen escondidas aún en la naturaleza,
antes de que el hombre termine dejando erosionado
el planeta.
Es defensor de la Madre Tierra, porque dice
que "en ésta yace realmente la verdad".
Se graduó de secundaria y realizó algunos
cursos cortos, pero siempre le gustó el estudio
empírico.

Nilson es un apasionado por el fútbol, el
rock, los campings; le gusta leer, escribir y
montar cicla. "La cicla es tal vez el mejor transporte
que ha ingeniado el ser humano, porque
es ligero y no contamina en absoluto la atmósfera;
es saludable, es económico, no hace ruido,
es una opción viable para todo aquel que
utiliza un medio de transporte que contamina
el medio ambiente".
Nilson se crió en el barrio El Vergel y le
agradece mucho a la Fundación Carvajal por
haber apoyado e impulsado su emprendimiento
para continuar en pie con sus ideales: "La
Fundación Carvajal en sus bibliotecas me ha
brindado espacios para aprender muchas cosas,
como fotografía, poesía, vídeo y talleres
creativos, entre otras tantas. Comencé asistiendo

1 y ahora, junto con otros cinco compañeros,
realizamos un libro para esta apreciada
Fundación; por ello manifiesto mi gratitud y
soy partidario de que se sigan construyendo
muchas más bibliotecas dinámicas como ésta,
que tanto benefician a niños, jóvenes, adultos
y adultos mayores. Estas obras son dignas de
admiración, porque generan unidad y son las
que construyen ciudad".

Historia de Vida César Armando Rentería

Mi nombre es César Armando Rentería;
nací en la ciudad de Cali, Colombia.
Soy una persona con muchos sueños
y metas por cumplir. Desde mi niñez me propuse
ser el mejor en todo y esto fue tomando
forma en el colegio, al ser el más sobresaliente
de mi curso; terminé la primaria becado y con
muchos honores.
Siempre me ha gustado aprender de todo
en la vida y me siento muy motivado al investigar
temas complicados y extraños de la historia.
Por otra parte, me encanta la tecnología;
me parece muy interesante cómo el mundo
ha evolucionado, pasando de las cartas a los
email y otras tecnologías que han ayudado al
desarrollo.
He realizado algunos cursos en la Fundación
Carvajal, entre ellos el de Emprendimiento
Empresarial y Archivo Fotográfico, los cuales
me han aportado herramientas para mi vida
laboral.
La Fundación Carvajal ha sido clave en
este proceso, brindándome la oportunidad de
adquirir conocimientos nuevos y ponerlos en
práctica.
Soy admirador de aquel versículo de la Santa
Biblia que dice: "Todo lo puedo en Cristo,
que me fortalece", porque cuando uno tiene a
Dios de su lado, todos los sueños y las metas
son más fáciles de alcanzar.
